DHAKA - Bangladesh's garment industry remains below the basic level of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), according to a new study by the country's Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) think tank.

The CPD study - entitled 'State of the UNGPs in the RMG Sector of Bangladesh' - says that the industry has made significant progress on workplace safety over the last decade but still needs to improve on human and labour rights issues.

Bangladesh is expected to graduate from its current status as a 'least developed country' (LDC) in 2026 - meaning it will no longer benefit from significant trade privileges.
