TORONTO – Environmental non-profit Fashion Takes Action (FTA) has teamed up with the Canadian government and native industry stakeholders to launch a pilot project that will look to address the country’s growing textile waste issue.

Consumers are encouraged to donate unwanted garments, primarily athletic clothing made from polyester, at participating SportChek retail stores up and down the country.

“With over 500,000 tonnes of textiles going to Canada’s landfills each year, now is the time to take action toward a new textiles economy,” said FTA’s founder, Kelly Drennan.
