LEICESTER – Academics at Leicester’s De Montfort University (DMU) have developed a new traceability solution for the textile and fashion industries.

The technology is based on holograms – similar to those used on bank notes – which are embedded in textile fibres so that they can later be identified under a microscope for proof of authenticity.

Professor Martin Richardson, Professor of Holography at DMU, said: “The holographic technology being developed at De Montfort University is targeted for brand protection and being able to identify a genuine article from a fake.
