ROCHESTER - A Nike project to explore the use of automated technology to disassemble apparel for recycling is among the beneficiaries of funding announced in the US to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.

It is one of 23 new projects selected for a share of US$33.2 million in new technology research grants announced by the Remade Institute, a public-private partnership established by the US Department of Energy (DOE).

Nike is working with scientists at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on the programme, entitled 'Development of an Automated Method for Disassembly and Separation of Apparel for Recycling'.
