HANOI – The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the government of the Netherlands have teamed up to support skills training in Vietnam’s garment industry.

The two authorities recognise the sector’s huge contribution to Vietnam’s growth and development, and are wary that changing demands could jeopardise the future of its workforce.

“Timely investment in skills can help speed up the economic recovery, a safe return to work, reduce the career scarring effects of prolonged unemployment and skills mismatch, and take advantage of opportunities that may otherwise dissipate over time,” said ILO Vietnam’s officer-in-charge, Nilim Baruah.
