ATLANTA - Investigations by the US Department of Labor (DOL) have found that eight of ten cotton ginneries in the south-east of the country are underpaying their workers.
Employers were found to be in breach of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA) or the H-2A visa programme.
Officials identified violations in 81 per cent of the 71 cotton gin investigations completed between November 2019 and March 2021 in the region which is home to some of the US's largest cotton producers.
