DHAKA - Workers' rights campaigners are urging French supermarket chain Auchan to sign up to the new International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry.

The Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) says the company, which trades as Alcampo in Spain, has a special responsibility as it sourced from one of the factories in the Rana Plaza building which collapsed in April 2013.

The Rana Plaza disaster, in which 1,134 people died, triggered the formation of the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety which has been credited with huge improvements in factory safety.
