DHAKA – The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has teamed up with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in a bid to improve workplace sectors in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.

The pair met over the weekend to thrash out the terms of their collaboration, which will focus on increasing the number of safety committees in the country’s key manufacturing hubs.

“These committees will prevent many workplace accidents and diseases once they are equipped with proper skills and tools, and allowed to function as per the law,” noted George Faller, chief technical advisor of the ILO’s Improving Working Conditions in the RMG Sector Programme.
