ST LOUIS - Researchers at a US university have patented a new process which they say could transform the way that garments are designed, manufactured and recycled.

Mary Ruppert-Stroescu, associate professor at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St Louis, has led the development of the RECLEM process.

It aims to provide a new way for clothing manufacturers to create new apparel from waste cotton or other natural fabrics that would otherwise go to landfill.
