LONDON – A sustainability initiative started by a school in London is to be adopted by others up and down the country in a bid to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of throwaway fashion.
Highgate School’s Fast Fashion-Free February (FFFF) started four years ago with the view to educating children and challenging them to abstain from purchasing new apparel for a month.
Members of the UK Schools Sustainability Network have now aligned with the initiative as they vie to spread the message. Highgate’s lead teacher for the environment, Sarah Mynott, said: “It’s something that all of us can do … ranging from buying fewer clothes and boycotting fast fashion brands, to buying secondhand or ethically-sourced clothing.”
