BRUSSELS – More than 100 companies and other bodies – including Patagonia and IKEA – have issued a joint statement urging the European Union (EU) to swiftly adopt effective mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) legislation.

The EU was due to unveil its proposals – which would make companies liable for human rights and environmental issues in their global supply chains – last year but this was delayed.

In the joint statement, the signatories express concern about the setbacks to the twice-delayed proposal, now expected later this month, and outline their expectations.
