BRUSSELS – The European Coalition for Corporate Justice (ECCJ) says the European Union’s proposed mandatory due dilience legislation is “riddled with flaws and exemptions” and would apply to only 0.2 per cent of EU companies.

The European Commission unveiled its proposals – which would make companies responsible for human rights and environmental issues in their global supply chains – earlier this week.

ECCJ said the legislation was “a turning point in the battle to end corporate impunity, but riddled with flaws and exemptions”, such as the fact it would apply only to larger companies.
