DENVER – US apparel brand Smartwool has launched its Second Cut Project for the second consecutive year, with the view to encouraging its customers to donate unwanted socks which can then be recycled.

Having helped divert 12,000 lbs of material from landfill last April, the Colorado-based company has brought back the initiative and hopes to collect upwards of 400,000 pairs of old socks.

“With the relaunch of our Second Cut Project, we are one step closer towards achieving our 100 per cent circularity pledge by 2030,” said Alicia Chin, sustainability and social impact senior manager, Smartwool. “We are committed to finding innovative ways of manufacturing to limit our impact on the environment, and this project allows consumers to aid in our progress by visiting our retail partners to recycle their socks.”
