LONDON - More than 30 NGOs, business leaders and other stakeholders have signed a letter calling on the British government to ban the sale of washing machines that are not fitted with microfibre filters.

Signatories to the letter, to Environment Secretary George Eustice, include Fashion For Good, Fashion Revolution, Greenpeace, Global Fashion Exchange, Marine Conservation Society and Surfers Against Sewage.

They are supporting the Microplastic Filters (Washing Machines) Bill which has been introduced as a private member's bill in the House of Commons by Alberto Costa MP, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Microplastics.
