SCHATTDORF – German denim brand Mustang has teamed up with circular solutions specialist TexAid to introduce an in-store clothing collection programme.

Available in more than 70 stores spanning Europe, the service will enable TexAid – which specialises in the collection, sorting, reselling and recycling of pre-owned garments – to prolong the lifecycle of materials used in Mustang products.

“TexAid is continually fostering new collection programs of post-consumer textiles to efficiently sort them for their next lifecycle and is looking for strong industry partners to push consumer awareness and participation in joint projects like these,” the firm said in a statement.

Mustang, said to have customers in more than 20 countries, is keen to improve its sustainability credentials by adopting the principles of a circular economy.

A partnership with TexAid is deemed an idyllic solution, as the company has the existing infrastructure to collect, sort and – depending on quality – resell or recycle goods.

As such, Mustang is offering a simple in-store collection service in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, the Netherlands and Poland, enabling shoppers to drop off their unwanted items to ensure they’re ‘sustainably’ disposed of.

“TexAid is pleased to be partnering with Mustang to offer an in-store collection program. At scale and paired with TexAid as an experienced solution provider, in-store collection of used clothing enables conservation of resources because it allows items to be directly sorted for their next and most environmentally friendly lifecycle,” a statement from the pair said.

TexAid has encouraged more brands and retailers to implement such services, insisting it’s at the beck and call of industry stakeholders. The firm has also hinted that it’s keen to continue its expansion throughout Europe and the US.
