DHAKA - A new agreement to improve workplace safety and health in Bangladesh has been agreed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
It will cover 10 priority sectors including domestic readymade garments (RMG) and leather, and seek to learn the lessons of Bangladesh's export RMG industry which has seen dramatic safety improvements since the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013.
Under the agreement, capacity building and promotional activities will be carried out to strengthen workplace safety and health at institutional as well as factory levels. These will be supported by ILO’s RMG programme, funded by Canada and the Netherlands.
