PARIS - The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is to use the textiles industry as a testing ground for a new system to assess the sustainability of international trade transactions.
The ICC hopes to eventually establish an industry definition of sustainable trade – taking into account both environmental and socio-economic factors - but decided to start with the textiles sector.
At the COP27 climate summit, ICC secretary general John Denton announced that more than 20 banks and corporates had pledged to pilot the 'Wave 1' framework for textiles transactions.
