HAMBURG – Products from fast fashion brand Shein have been found to contain up to twice the level of hazardous chemicals allowed under EU legislation, according to a Greenpeace Germany investigation.
The non-profit analysed the chemical composition of 47 Shein products – for men, women and kids – and claims that seven of them contained high levels of potentially hazardous chemicals that breach regulations.
“Greenpeace is calling for the EU to enforce its laws on hazardous chemicals – which are a basic requirement for achieving a circular textiles economy and the end of fast fashion, as set out in the EU’s own textiles strategy,” said the organisation’s toxics and circular economy campaigner, Viola Wohlgemuth.
