BRUSSELS – Wedze, the winter sports brand of French retailer Decathlon, has launched what it says is a ‘fully recyclable’ ski jacket made from recycled polyester and material innovator Resortecs’ SmartStitch solution.
Smart Stitch is a heat-dissolvable thread which – when an item reaches its end-of-life – can be melted away at temperatures above 190oC to separate fabric from additional components such as zippers and buttons.
By integrating the technology within Wedze’s ski jacket, the company believes all components can be separated more efficiently and fed back into the supply chain.
