SYLHET - British International Investment (BII), the development finance arm of the UK government, has agreed a US$52 million loan to fund a cotton spinning mill, to be housed in a LEED-certified green building, in Bangladesh.

The DBL Group, one of Bangladesh's leading apparel exporters, is behind the plans for Jinnat Textile Mills Ltd which will create more than 1,000 jobs, mostly for women, in Shreehatta Economic Zone, in the eastern city of Sylhet.

BII’s loan to DBL Group qualifies under the G7's '2X Challenge' as the mill - due to be operational in April - will contribute toward strengthening women’s economic participation and quality of employment.
