SINGAPORE – Viscose giant Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) has “categorically refuted” claims in a new report linking it to deforestation in its supply chain and to a huge new pulp plant in Indonesia which environmentalists say could threaten tropical rainforests.
The ‘Pulping Borneo’ report was co-published by Greenpeace International, Yayasan Auriga Nusantara, Environmental Paper Network, Rainforest Action Network and Woods & Wayside International.
It claims that RGE has “hidden links” to other companies which are accused of deforestation including PT Phoenix Resources International, the reported owner of a new “mega-scale” pulp mill being built in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo.
