WASHINGTON DC – The American Apparel & Footwear Association industry body, which represents more than 1,000 brands, has called for new incentives to promote environmentally-friendly textile imports into the US.

Beth Hughes, vice president, trade and customs policy at AAFA, called for new ‘green’ HTS (harmonised tariff schedule) codes – which determine the duty paid on imports into the US – to encourage more sustainable fashion and textile imports.

She made the call as part of the AAFA’s comments on green trade to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) which has invited suggestions on how trade regulations could be used to encourage sustainability and circularity.
