PHNOM PENH – An alliance of 58 trade unions and workers’ rights campaigners is urging Nike to pay supply chain workers in Cambodia $1.4 million in unpaid wages and benefits which they say they are owed after their factory closed without notice in 2020.

They have written a joint letter to the sportswear giant about the closure of the Violet Apparel factory – which was owned by the Ramatex textile and apparel conglomerate – with the loss of 1,284 jobs in Phnom Penh in July 2020.

Ramatex, which operates more than 20 production facilities around the world, is Nike’s primary manufacturing partner, according to the campaigners who say the factory also supplied Matalan.
