COIMBATORE – A new study by researchers in India says using laser and ultrasonic cutters on polyester knitted fabrics – instead of traditional cut-and-sew methods – can significantly reduce the amount of microfibres released to the environment during laundry.
The newly released study found that using lasers and ultrasound can lower microfibre emissions “by up to 20 times” compared to scissor and knife-cut edges, and the type of stitch and the needle count used during garment production both play a part in reducing microfibre release when polyester clothes are washed.
