AMSTERDAM – Dutch engineering and R&D company Dye-FF claims to have invented a solution for waterless, low-carbon footprint fabric scouring, using compressed carbon dioxide (CO2) as a non-toxic solvent.
Dye-FF founder Martijn van der Kraan has applied for a patent for his invention in which polyester or polyester-spandex blends are perfused by compressed CO2 which dissolves and carries away knitting and spinning oil from the fibres.
So far, the technology has been tested at small scale (1kg) in an R&D machine designed by Dye-FF and built by business partner, machine builder Ozephius Stainless, near Rotterdam.
