NEW HAVEN - US start-up Protein Evolution Inc (PEI) has gone into partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE) for a project to use artificial intelligence to create enzymes that break down textile and plastic waste for recycling.

PEI is working with the DOE's Agile BioFoundry (ABF), Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Process Development Unit (ABPDU) and the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) research centre on the project.

The first part of the partnership will involve leveraging collective advancements in artificial intelligence to create the enzymes; the second will streamline methods for manufacturing them at scale.
