BRUSSELS – European Union proposals to make companies liable for human rights and environmental issues in their global supply chains appear to be in jeopardy after the postponing of a meeting which had been expected to rubberstamp the legislation.
The meeting of the European Council had been due to approve an agreement struck in December between the council and the European Parliament on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) under which companies could be fined up to 5% of their global sales.
