DENVER – Outdoor brand The North Face is working with a US Department of Energy-led consortium to determine whether bio-based synthetic textiles could offer a more sustainable raw material for its products.

The Bio-Optimized Technologies to keep Thermoplastics out of Landfills and the Environment (BOTTLE) group is researching PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoates) as a biodegradable, recyclable alternative to conventional polyester.
