GENEVA - Annual profits from forced labour rose to $236 billion globally in 2021 - a 37% increase since 2014, according to a new study from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Forced labour is a major concern in the fashion and textiles industry, particularly in the Xinjiang region of China where Uyghur Muslims are allegedly forced to work in the cotton industry which meets a fifth of global demand.
