LUDWIGSHAFEN – BASF, which supplies chemicals, thermoplastics, and synthetic textile fibres has for the first time demonstrated an electric steam cracking furnace powered by renewable energy that can be used to make pre-cursors to make polyester and nylon polymers – along with a range of other chemical intermediates.

BASF claims the demonstration plant can reduce CO2 emissions by at least 90% compared to conventional cracking furnaces that rely on fossil fuels for power generation.
