European agreement on EPR for textiles

BRUSSELS - The European Union's (EU) two legislative bodies have today reached a provisional agreement on the revision of the waste framework directive which includes an extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme for textiles.

The agreement between the European Council and European Parliament,- which still needs to be confirmed by both - was heralded as a significant step towards circularity for the EU which generates 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste each year.
