A new agreement will establish a union-led programme to eliminate gender-based violence and harassment in Indonesian garment factories
Female workers in two Indonesian garment factories that supply US brand such as Nike have signed what is being labelled as a ‘ground-breaking’ union-led gender justice agreement.
The signing of the Central Java Agreement for Gender Justice, which has resulted from workers allegedly suffering years of gender-based violence and harassment, was negotiated by four unions - SPN, SPSI, and KASBI at PT Batang Apparel Indonesia, and SPSI at PT Semarang Garment Indonesia - with the support of the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC), Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA), and Global Labor Justice (GLJ), all of whom are signatories.
