Uncertainty looms over California’s SB 54 law

SACRAMENTO - A California law hailed as “the most significant overhaul of the state’s plastic and packaging policy in history” is undergoing revision, following the release of draft regulations last month.

SB 54, the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act, was signed in 2022 and specifically mandates that all single-use bags, boxes, hangers, and any other plastic elements that come with a product be recyclable, compostable and minimised.
