HAMILTON - Scientists in Canada have demonstrated natural genetic variations in a common species of mushroom can be used to create customised, biodegradable replacements for fabrics and other materials.

Researchers at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, investigated how a variation of the split gill mushroom, which is found all over the world, can influence the characteristics of mycelium, the root-like structures already used to make vegan leather alternatives.
