Deforestation law at risk of further setback

The European Union’s flagship anti-deforestation law suffered a further setback this week with the European Parliament voting to reject the European Commission’s proposed benchmarking system to categorise countries by their deforestation risk level.

The vote casts further doubts over the timescale of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which is designed to ensure that goods imported to or exported from the EU do not contribute to global forest loss.
