Researchers use fungus to waterproof fabrics

Scientists say barrier produced by edible fungus created a water- and stain-proof coating on denim, polyester and other materials

ORONO - Researchers at the University of Maine say they have identified a way to water- and stain-proof materials, including denim and polyester, using an edible fungus.

In a proof-of-concept study, published in the Langmuir peer-reviewed journal, they say the fungus produced an impervious film that blocked water, oil and grease absorption.
