Saudi-led partnership presents ‘marine algae fibre’

A new textile fibre said to feature marine algae from the Red Sea has been unveiled by the Saudi Fashion Commission and Pyratex

RIYADH – The Saudi Fashion Commission has announced the launch of the Red Sea Seaweed Project, which it claims is a “pioneering bio-textile” developed from marine algae sourced from the Red Sea.

The Fashion Commission said the innovation has been developed in partnership with Spanish natural performance materials specialist Pyratex, and Saudi Arabian environmental and applied research consultancy Kaust Beacon Development (KBD).
