Bangladesh tannery workers below minimum wage – report

DHAKA – Almost 77% of tannery workers in a key production hub in Bangladesh are paid below the legal minimum wage, with around two-thirds working on a temporary basis, according to a new report.

The research, jointly conducted by the Bangladesh Tannery Workers Union and the Solidarity Center Bangladesh between August and November, was based on shadow inspections and interviews with 225 workers across 121 factories in the Hemayetpur's Tannery Industrial Area in Savar.
