Brussels under fire over French EPR rules

BRUSSELS – Civil society groups have urged Brussels not to block a pioneering French bid to use textile producer fees to clamp down on fashion overproduction, warning that Europe’s growing mountain of low-value clothing waste is pushing collection systems to the brink.

In an open letter, 65 European and French NGOs call on the European Commission to back a draft French law that would stipulate penalties for high-volume, low-quality fashion into national extended producer responsibility (EPR) rules for textiles.
