EU states demand ultra-fast fashion crackdown

BRUSSELS – EU environment ministers used this week’s Council meeting in Brussels to demand a clampdown on ultra-fast fashion, warning that the model now poses a ‘triple threat’ to the bloc’s climate goals, its textile industry and fair competition in the single market.

In a joint non-paper released earlier this week, several EU countries urged the European Commission to move from strategy to concrete enforcement and new rules targeting low-cost, high-volume platforms flooding Europe with ultra-cheap garments, many shipped directly from outside the EU.
