BRUSSELS - Textile packaging emerges as a distinct material stream in the European Commission’s blueprint for harmonised EU waste‑sorting labels, with Brussels’ science advisers warning that today’s mixed treatment risks undermining both textile and packaging policy goals.

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) proposal, drawn up to support the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), creates a dedicated “textile packaging” label aimed at keeping items such as bags, wraps and covers out of residual bins and away from clothing take‑back flows.
