India’s budget for 2026/27 features new initiative designed to align the country’s textile industry with EU sustainability standards

DELHI – The Indian government has unveiled a new suite of policies designed to enhance the environmental performance of the country’s textile industry and boost its competitiveness.

The plans, announced as part of the national budget for 2026/27, include a new ‘Tex-Eco Initiative’, which aims to align the Indian textile and apparel sector with sustainability standards in the European Union and elsewhere.
