Allegations of forged documents, bogus farmer records and misused organic certificates have triggered new investigations into India’s organic cotton sector
KALAHANDI – Allegations of widespread organic cotton fraud have emerged in India’s Odisha state, with new investigations initiated by India’s Agriculture Processing Export Development Agency (APEDA) and the Odisha State Organic Certification Agency (OSOCA).
According to local news reports, companies in the Kalahandi district are allegedly obtaining organic certification and misusing the names of cotton farmers to fraudulently present conventionally farmed cotton as certified organic fibre.
