SMEP-backed project couples high-recycling wastewater technology with blockchain water credits to unlock Bangladesh ZLD finance

DHAKA - Bangladesh’s textile sector is piloting a water recycling scheme that combines zero liquid discharge (ZLD) technology with a novel 'water credit' finance model in a bid to channel hundreds of millions of dollars into cleaner production each year..

Backed by the UK- and Canada-funded Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme, the pilot – led by Solidaridad Network Asia and Dutch impact investor QStone Capital – has installed a pilot-scale treatment plant at vertically-integrated mill, Zaber & Zubair Fabrics Ltd in Dhaka.
