GOTS raises bar on due diligence

GOTS version 8.0 tightens chemicals, climate and human rights rules while hard‑wiring OECD‑style due diligence and circularity into certified textile supply chains

After a transition period, the latest version will become fully effective on 1 March 2027.

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) has unveiled version 8.0 of its benchmark processing standard for organic textiles, with a sweeping upgrade of requirements on chemicals, climate, circularity, and corporate governance.

The new edition is explicitly framed as a governance system for the entire textile value chain, governing how products are made, verified, claimed and labelled, with the aim of strengthening traceability and integrity from fibre to finished product.
