Research in Germany plans to develop robot technology for automatic sorting of smart clothing and to make items more recycling-friendly

Prof Dr-Ing Jens Schäfer (left) and Prof Dr-Ing Steffen Greiser from the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences want to recycle smart textiles regionally and are working on product design as well as sorting using robotics.

LINGEN/OSNABRÜCK – Scientists in Germany have begun a new European Union-funded project which aims to make the design of smart textiles more sustainable.

The two-year programme at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences is developing robot technology which the research team claims could enable smart clothing to be sorted automatically in the future and in turn boost recycling rates.
