Farmers pay price for organic fraud

Ecotextile News receives numerous allegations of organic cotton fraud every year, almost all linked to India. These are driven by pressure to grow more organic cotton, satisfy demanding buyers and bosses, and to narrow the cost gap between organic and conventional fibre.

At the same time, there is also a lack of investment in decent work, incomes and training, while price differentials may not reach farmers, as India has for years suffered from low or no premiums.
