Nano-coating ‘cuts need for detergent’ – study

NANJING / CHANGCHUN – A new fabric coating that creates a “water shield” on textiles could cut detergent use, reduce wastewater pollution and help reduce the release of microplastics from laundry, according to a new study carried out in China.

The research, published in the peer-reviewed journal Communications Chemistry, concludes that in pilot testing the coating works on both cotton and synthetic fabrics and can remove stains and grime with just a single water rinse.
