Techtextil and Texprocess awards showcase how materials science, chemistry and recycling are enhancing textile sustainability

FRANKFURT - A new PFAS alternative which uses a dry plasma process to give both elastic and inelastic yarns water repellency has been named among the winners of the Techtextil and Texprocess Innovation Awards 2026.

Swiss spinner Bäumlin and Ernst's 'EcoTex' process claims to give durable water repellency without the use of fluorinated chemicals, or fresh water, and its ultra-thin organosilicon coating breaks down to silicon dioxide at end of life.
