Unions target garment worker low wages

GENEVA — IndustriALL Global Union affiliates in Asia-Pacific have intensified campaigns against poverty-level wages in the garment industry, where they say workers earn far below living standards.

Unions report garment workers in key hubs face severe hardship. In Bangladesh, the minimum wage stands at BDT8,000 ($79) monthly, unchanged for years despite inflation. Sri Lanka pays LKR16,000 ($44), insufficient for basics.
